It is a small museum on the open web, and like most small museums it runs on modest costs and the goodwill of the people who walk through. Why we ask
The basic infrastructure costs about $100 a month — the servers, the database that holds every word's history, the maps that trace each migration. Beyond that is the human work: checking claims, answering corrections, and turning scattered records into histories people can actually read.
If a hundred readers gave a dollar a month, the museum would pay for itself. We would rather have that than a single banner ad.

No perks. There are no tiers, no badges, no members-only wing — everything here is free for everyone, and it stays that way whether or not you give. The only thing a contribution buys is the archive's continued existence and improvement. That is the point of it.
