Desenrascanço (originally desenrascanço, now often spelled desenrascanco) comes from desenrascar—a Portuguese verb meaning literally 'to unplug' or 'to free from stuckness.' Rascar means to scrape or get caught. The prefix de- reverses it. When you desenrascar yourself, you free yourself from a jam, but not through planning.
